Investigation into $60k worth of stolen goods leads police to illegal grow-op

On Aug. 8, 2019, the Guelph Police Service became involved in a theft investigation reported by a business in the north end of Guelph. The business reported approximately 27 laptops had been stolen from their office along with numerous electrician tools. The total value of the theft was approximately $60,000. 

As a result of the police investigation the responsible parties were identified as a 29-year-old male and a 27-year-old female, both from Moorefield. A search warrant was executed at their residence by members of the Guelph Police Service General Investigations Unit and Intelligence Unit, as well as members of the Ontario Provincial Police. A large quantity of stolen property from the aforementioned theft was located and seized to be returned to the rightful owner. 

A cannabis grow operation was also located within the residence along with approximately 15 ounces of dry cannabis. 

As a result of the investigation the parties were both charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5000
  • Possession for the purposes of selling cannabis
  • Cultivate cannabis over the dwelling-house limit

The male was additionally charged with:

  • Theft over $5000
  • Trafficking In property obtained by crime

They will both appear in court on Sept. 24.
