A Guelph male faces assault charges after reportedly throwing a board game at a police officer Wednesday evening.

Approximately 4:35 p.m. police were called to the transit terminal on Carden Street for a male in possible medical distress. Police located a male, who appeared very impaired and had possibly ingested pink fentanyl, say police.

Officers and paramedics believed the male was not able to care for himself and he was transported to Guelph General Hospital for assessment.

The male was belligerent and combative with first responders throughout their interaction. Once being medically cleared the male was being escorted out of the hospital when he picked up a bag containing a board game and threw it at one of the officers, narrowly missing his head.

A 36-year-old Guelph male is charged with assaulting police. He will appear in a Guelph court Dec. 10.
