A man in his 70s was taken to hospital with a possible concussion early Thursday morning, following an assault that happened outside his home hours earlier.

As outlined in a Guelph police news release, the man told police he was walking home, in the area of Silvercreek Parkway North and Greengate Road, at about 11 p.m. when a man began yelling at him. As the victim neared his home, he again heard yelling and turned to see the suspect close behind him.

The suspect then grabbed the man’s arm and pushed him, causing the man to fall back and hit his head on concrete.

Hours later, the victim called for an ambulance due to continued feelings of dizziness and nausea. He was taken to hospital for treatment of a possible concussion.

The suspect is described as a white man, 18 to 20 years old and about 5’ 9” tall, with long blond hair. At the time he was wearing a light-coloured shirt.

At about 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a suspect matching that description followed a female on Guelph Street. Officers checked the area at that time but were unable to locate him.

“Given the proximity and descriptions provided it is possible the same male was involved in both incidents,” the news release states.
