A 29-year-old Guelph man faces numerous shoplifting charges after allegedly leaving multiple businesses with merchandise without completing debit sale transactions.

As outlined in a police news release, the first incident happened shortly after midnight on June 26 at a business near the intersection of Woodlawn Road West and Imperial Road North. A man reportedly asked a store clerk for tobacco products and inserted a card into the debit machine, but left with the products before completing the transaction.

The same man is believed to have used the same ploy at that location later in the day.

On June 28, a man selected two bottles of alcohol at a business near the intersection of Paisley Road and Imperial Road South and proceeded to the cash register. At that point the man inserted a card into the debit machine, then left with the alcohol before the transaction went through.

Shortly thereafter a man left a nearby store with tobacco products after inserting a card into the debit machine without paying.

Police located a suspect near the intersection of Elmira Road North and Willow Road shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday.

A Guelph man is charged with four counts of theft under $5,000.
