Man arrested after female allegedly hit and choked in south end

A male was arrested on assault charges following an alleged assault Monday afternoon at a south end residence.

Approximately 12:30 p.m., Police were called to a residence in the area of Gordon Street and Arkell Road where they learned a female in her 40s had been repeatedly struck and choked. She was transported to hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Two hours later, police located the responsible male in the downtown area and placed him under arrest. The victim and suspect are known to each other. A 21-year-old Guelph male is charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault and mischief. He will appear in a Guelph court Jan. 25.
