A 40-year-old Guelph man faces a number of charges following a series of attempted break-ins at south end homes Thursday evening.

Police responded to the area of Clair Road West and Gordon Street at about 10:30 p.m. after a man reportedly rang at the doorbell at two homes multiple times each before trying the door handle.

In both cases, the door was locked, states a Guelph Police Service news release.

At a third home, the suspect peered inside through a glass window on the front door and, upon seeing people inside, left.

He then began walking up to a fourth residence down the street but stopped when he came across the homeowner sitting in their vehicle in the driveway.

Police arrived as the suspect and homeowner were speaking and was subsequently arrested.

Three charges of attempted break-and-enter were filed, as well as one count of trespass by night.
