Guelph police have arrested a male after he was observed carrying a baseball bat covered in barbed wire downtown on Monday.

Police report that at 7:43 a.m. police were notified regarding an adult male walking around the downtown core. The male was observed carrying a baseball bat covered in barbed wire.

A short time later police located the male in the area.

Further investigation revealed that last January the male entered into a Judicial Release Order on other charges that contained numerous conditions including a weapons prohibition.

The male was subsequently arrested.

A search incident to arrest revealed an eight inch serrated steak knife in his bag.

Both the baseball bat and the knife were seized.

A 24-year-old Guelph male has been charged with two counts of fail to comply with judicial release order.

He will appear in court on Dec. 14.
