A Guelph man was arrested Thursday after falsely reporting his vehicle had been stolen earlier this month.

On Aug. 19, a man called Guelph police to report his vehicle had been stolen five days earlier from an address on Dawson Road and had since been involved in a hit and run collision outside the city.

On Sunday officers located the vehicle parked where the man claimed he last saw it and observed fresh damage. A review of video surveillance revealed the vehicle had not moved during the time the male claimed it was stolen.

A 33-year-old was arrested Thursday and charged with public mischief.
