Man charged with impaired driving after following victim he felt was driving recklessly

Accused also charged with dangerous operation

On the evening of April 24, 2020, members of the Guelph Police Service attended to the parking lot of a commercial plaza located near the intersection of Silvercreek Parkway North and Willow Road in the City of Guelph in regards to a driving dispute between two adult males.

Investigation revealed that the male aggressor had been following the male victim throughout the City of Guelph based on his belief that the victim was driving recklessly. At one point, the aggressor bumped into the rear of the victim’s vehicle while he was stopped at a red light causing $1,000 worth of damage. At another point, the victim had to take evasive action to avoid a collision, as the aggressor drove up beside the victim and attempted to turn into him.

At 10:59 p.m., the aggressor was arrested and he subsequently failed an approved screening device roadside breath test.

A 32-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
    •    Impaired operation conveyance – blood alcohol concentration
    •    Mischief under $5,000
    •    Dangerous operation

He will appear in court on May 26.

On April 24, 2020 at 7:07 p.m., a concerned citizen notified the Guelph Police Service regarding a vehicle driving erratically near the intersection of Gordon Street and Water Street in the City of Guelph.

At 7:09 p.m., police located the vehicle and ultimately initiated a traffic stop in a commercial plaza parking lot located near the intersection of Gordon Street and Kortright Road West.

At 7:19 p.m., the male failed an approved screening device roadside breath test and was subsequently arrested.

A search of the vehicle incident to arrest revealed an open bottle of alcohol on the floor of the vehicle, an empty bottle of alcohol in the centre console and a sealed bottle of alcohol on the rear seat.

A 57-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration
    •    Novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero
    •    Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor

He will appear in court on May 26.
