Guelph police are investigating after a man was sprayed with a noxious substance Wednesday evening.

The victim said he left a Quebec Street restaurant approximately 6:45 p.m. carrying a take-out container. He was approached by an unknown man who asked for the food but the victim refused.

A short time later the victim was walking to pick his daughter up nearby when he passed the unknown man. As the victim walked past the man, he turned around with a canister in his hand and sprayed the victim in the face with a substance believed to be pepper spray.

The man was last seen running on Quebec Street towards Wyndham Street North. He was described as a white man, approximately 20 years of age with a slim build. He was wearing a long white shirt, dark pants, dark shoes and a dark hat.
