Man wanted on outstanding warrant arrested at collision scene

Police say he attempted to flee and refused to identify himself

On Aug. 19, 2020 at approximately 11:36 a.m., Guelph Police came upon a minor motor vehicle collision on Fountain Street near Wyndham Street in the City of Guelph. There were no injuries.

[It is alleged that] the driver of the involved motorcycle refused to identify himself or remove his helmet and was attempting to restart the bike in an attempt to leave the scene. Police quickly removed the keys from the motorcycle and upon identifying the driver discovered there was a warrant for his arrest.

The driver then attempted to flee on foot and after a brief foot chase was arrested.

A 26-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
    •    Operation while prohibited
    •    Escape lawful custody
    •    Possession of a controlled substance - Schedule 1 (fentanyl)
    •    Fail to remain
    •    Drive motor vehicle - no plates
    •    Owner operate motor vehicle - no insurance

The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on Dec. 1, 2020.
