A Guelph man faces a number of charges following Sunday afternoon collision, which saw a driver flee, only to return a short time later in another vehicle.

Police were called to a crash on Speedvale Avenue East, near Metcalfe Street, at about 3:45 p.m. Investigation revealed a vehicle was leaving a private residence when it was struck by another vehicle, which fled the scene but left behind a licence plate, a police news release explains.

The suspect drove past in a different vehicle a short time later and was stopped by police. The man initially denied being involved in the collision and told police the licence plate must have been stolen from his garage.

A 36-year-old Guelph man is charged with failing to stop after a collision, obstructing police and operating a vehicle without insurance.
