Guelph Police Service dealt with 646 calls for service over the weekend

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Breach recognizance/drug - arrest
On May 28, 2018, a male was released on a recognizance of bail not to attend to the Old Quebec Street mall in the downtown. On June 1, 2018, at approximately 9:20 a.m., the male was arrested for breaching his conditions. Once in police custody, the male was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and was further charged.

Kyle Bickford, a 28-year-old Guelph male, appeared in court on June 1, 2018.

Impaired driving - arrest
On June 2, 2018 at approximately 3:40 a.m., Guelph Police stopped a motor vehicle in the area of Willow Road and Dawson Road for swerving on the roadway. Police spoke with the driver of the vehicle and as a result, the male was arrested for impaired driving. The male was further charged with drive over 80mg as well as several Highway Traffic offences and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act infractions.

Kristian Williams, a 33-year-old Guelph male, was given a June 22, 2018 court date.

Mischief - arrest
On June 2, 2018 at approximately 12:15 p.m., Guelph Police were called to the area of Douglas Street for a man that had allegedly keyed a vehicle. Police attended to the area and located the responsible party.

Christopher LeBlanc, a 37-year-old Guelph male, was arrested for mischief under $5,000. He was given a July 20th, 2018 court date.

Obstruct police-arrest
On June 2, 2018 at approximately 8:35 p.m. while on routine patrol, Guelph Police observed a motor vehicle driving in an erratic manner on York Road. Police stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver. The driver provided a false name to police. As a result, Christopher Sheppard, a 38-year-old Guelph male, was arrested for obstruct police. He was also charged with personation, drive disqualified and several Highway Traffic Act offences. He was given a July 13, 2018 court date.

Fire - 66 Queensdale Crescent
The following media release is being posted on behalf of the Guelph Fire Department. Any inquiries should be made to Chief Osborne at 519-824-6590.

On June 3, 2018 at approximately 11:10 p.m. the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 66 Queensdale Cr., Guelph, Ont.

Arriving at the scene, firefighters found a fully involved two-storey house with visible flames coming from the garage. All occupants of the structure had self-evacuated upon arrival.

The fire was quickly brought under control and subsequently extinguished. Firefighters performed an aggressive exterior attack which resulted in the fire being contained to the garage area of the home. Smoke damage to the interior of the home was also present.

There were no injuries to Firefighting Personnel. One occupant of the home suffered scratches while removing the family cat and was treated at the scene by Guelph Wellington Paramedics.

The cause of the fire, along with a damage estimate, is under investigation by Guelph Fire investigators, Guelph Police and the Fire Marshall’s Office. Guelph Fire and Guelph Police are on scene awaiting the arrival of the Fire Marshall and will follow up with their investigation.
