On October 28, 2016 at 8:22 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Bullfrog Pond Park for the report that youths were doing drugs. Police located two youths and one had a bag containing a small quantity of marijuana.

Drug call

On Oct. 28, 2016 at 8:22 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Bullfrog Pond Park for the report that youths were doing drugs. Police located two youths and one had a bag containing a small quantity of marijuana. Further investigation also found that this youth was breaching court imposed conditions and he was arrested. The other youth was sent on her way.

The 16-year-old Guelph male has been charged with two counts of breach of probation, breach undertaking and possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on Nov. 16, 2016.

Break and enter

On Oct. 28, 2016, the Guelph Police went to a Cambridge Street apartment building to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the boiler room sometime over the last week and stole a bicycle.

Break and enter

On October 28, 2016, the Guelph Police went to a Lawrence Avenue residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the unlocked shed and stole a bicycle. It is believed the theft occurred on Oct. 23, 2016.

Impaired driver reported

On Oct. 29, 2016 at 9:58 p.m., the Guelph Police received the report of a possible impaired driver in the area of Whitetail Court. A second report then came in that this same car was travelling on McAlister Boulevard without its lights on. Police located the female driver and the vehicle parked on Whitetail Court shortly after. It was determined that she was impaired by alcohol and she was arrested.

Chris Finlayson, 56 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired care and control and care and control over 80mg. She will appear in court on Nov. 15, 2016.

Sudden death

On Oct. 29, 2016 Guelph Police initiated an investigation into the sudden and unexpected death of an infant in the west end of the city.  To date, police have determined there is nothing suspicious about this incident. There will be no further details released for privacy reasons.

Break and enter

On Oct. 30, 2016 at 10:37 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Fountain Street West residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the garage sometime overnight and stole a bike as well as other items.

Impaired driver reported

On Oct. 30, 2016 at 3:03 a.m., the Guelph Police received the report of a possible impaired driver on Gordon Street near downtown. Police located the male driver and vehicle parked on Grant Street. It was determined that he was impaired by alcohol and he was arrested.

Jason Houston, 18 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired care and control and care and control over 80mg. He was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with novice driver BAC above zero and young driver BAC above zero. He was also charged under the Liquor Licence Act with person under 19 years consume alcohol. He will appear in court on Nov. 15, 2016. 

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received five reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Harvard Road, Hearn Avenue, Kearney Street and two on Clairfields Drive East.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Bicycles stolen

Three more stolen bikes were reported over the weekend taken from residential and commercial properties (not break and enters) in Guelph. The locations were Alice Street, York Road and Algonquin Road. Many of the bikes were locked and the locks were cut.

Bike theft continues to be an ongoing concern. Heavy duty locks for bikes even when indoors gives you the best protection against theft.

The Guelph Police were involved in 536 incidents in this time frame. Incidents involve everything from traffic stops and accidental 911 calls to domestics and break and enters.
