Multiple car break-ins lead to several charges for Guelph man

Police allege credit cards taken from those vehicles were later used to buy food, smokes and lottery tickets

A series of vehicle break-ins and subsequent use of credit cards taken from them earlier this month has landed a Guelph man in hot water.

Guelph Police said that sometime overnight on Oct. 13 a man was observed entering a vehicle parked outside a residence near the intersection of Westwood Road and Imperial Road. Several hundred dollars worth of sunglasses were taken.

That same night a vehicle near Willow Road/Marksam road was entered and a wallet containing a credit card was taken. The same man was observed using the credit card at a restaurant to purchase food, drink and a gift card for a total of $29.68. He was then observed using the credit card at a store located near the same intersection to purchase lottery tickets and a pack of cigarettes for a total of $87.75.

Also that night, someone a vehicle parked outside a residence located near the intersection of Willow Road and Marksam Road was entered. A purse containing a debit card was taken. The same male was observed using the debit card at a store located near the intersection of Willow Road and Dawson Road to purchase lottery tickets and packs of cigarettes for a total of $49.49.

On Friday night police located the male near the intersection of Scottsdale Drive and Stone Road West. He was subsequently arrested.

A 47-year-old Guelph man was charged with:

-Theft under $5,000

- Unauthorized use of credit card x3

- Possession of stolen property under $5,000 x3

- Breach probation x4

He will appear in court Jan. 26.
