Noisy muffler leads to impaired charge

A Guelph male faces impaired driving charges after his vehicle’s faulty exhaust system attracted the attention of officers early Monday.

Approximately 2:20 a.m. a Guelph police observed a motor vehicle leaving an address on Waterloo Avenue while emitting excessive noise. The vehicle was stopped and the driver admitted consuming an alcoholic beverage. After registering a ‘fail’ on an approved screening device the male was arrested and taken to the Guelph Police station, where further testing revealed he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 50-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation – blood alcohol content and novice driver having alcohol in his system. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court June 18.
