TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - On June 6, 2017, at approximately 9:15 a.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a male known to have a licence suspension operating an ATV in Clifford, Ontario. The male suspect fled on the ATV from the officer.

On June 16, 2017 at approximately 11 p.m. police observed the green ATV parked on Union Street West in Harriston. Police identified the ATV as the one the above suspect had been operating. 

Police then located the suspect and advised him he was under arrest. The suspect assaulted the officer and resisted arrest, however, the officer was able to take him into custody.

45-year-old Christopher Burton of Fordwich has been charged with assault police officer with intent to avoid arrest contrary to the Criminal Code.

He was also charged with two counts of Drive Disqualified contrary to the Criminal Code and two counts of Drive while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He was held for bail.
