Fatal collision on Wellington Road 18

Drivers identified

CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP – On Nov. 23, 2016 at approximately 8:56 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fatal collision involving two motor vehicles on Wellington Road 18 at the 4th Line of Centre Wellington Township. 

A 2008 Ford (Fusion) was travelling westbound when it collided head-on with a 2016 Freightliner transport truck that was travelling eastbound. 

The driver and lone occupant of the Ford, 18-year-old Kristie-Lee Leighton of Fergus, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the second vehicle, 32-year-old Steve Bolton of Chatham was not injured. 

Centre Wellington Fire Rescue Department along with Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Wellington County Roads Department attended the scene.

The cause of the collision is currently being investigated by OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) and Wellington Road 18 between the 4th Line and the 5th Line of Centre Wellington Township was temporarily closed and has since reopened.
