OPP say contraband tobacco, suspected crystal meth seized during traffic stop

Police say the driver also assaulted an officer during the arrest

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON – On April 1, 2021 at approximately 1 a.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Belsyde Avenue near Tower Street South in Fergus.    

While speaking with the occupants, the officer observed several packages of unmarked contraband tobacco within the vehicle.  Police also recovered a quantity of a substance suspected to be crystal methamphetamine from within the vehicle. When the driver was placed under arrest, it was reported that they became combative and assaulted a police officer.  

Jason Desroche, 36-years-old of Guelph has been charged with;   

  • Possess unmarked cigarettes 
  • Possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine (2 counts) 
  • Assault a peace officer  

Samantha Plouffe-Vachon, 30-years-old of Durham has been charged with;   

  • Possess unmarked cigarettes 
  • Possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine (2 counts)  

Both individuals are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on May 4, 2021, to answer to the charges.
