Pedestrian badly hurt after being hit by car in south Guelph

'Significant' head and facial trauma when hit by car while walking on road near curb, say police

Guelph police report that a woman sustained significant injuries after she was struck by a car while walking to a bus stop Monday morning.

Emergency services were called just before 10 a.m. to Teal Drive near Milson Crescent. Investigation revealed a 25-year-old woman was walking on the road near the curb when she was struck from behind and knocked to the ground.

She sustained significant head and facial trauma, but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call Constable Mike Braga of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit at 519-824-1212, ext. 7144, or email him at [email protected].

The police news release issued a caution that may offer some insight into what they believe happened.

"Pedestrians are reminded that per the Highway Traffic Act they should walk facing oncoming traffic if forced to walk on the road. Motorists are reminded to be prepared for weather conditions such as bright sun," said the police news release.
