Police arrest alleged porch pirate

A Kitchener male faces charges after someone was reported to be stealing packages off porches in Guelph early Wednesday.

Approximately 3:25 a.m., the police were called to the area of Victoria Road North and Eastview Road after a witness saw someone stealing packages. Officers located a male on Glenburnie Drive who matched the description and detained him pending further investigation.

Officers followed fresh footprints from the male’s location and found Amazon packaging in the backyard of a nearby residence.

A 35-year-old Kitchener male is charged with theft under $5,000, possessing stolen property and trespass by night. He will appear in a Guelph court February 18, 2022.
