A 49-year-old Guelph man is charged with creating a common nuisance and breach of probation after what police have described as “aggressive panhandling” in the city’s north end.

In a news release, Guelph police explain a man was seen standing on the centre median of Woodlawn Road at Woolwich Street with a cardboard sign asking for money. The man attempted to leave the area after spotting a police cruiser but was stopped and arrested.

The man, police say, has been charged eight times since March under the Safe Street Act, which prohibits soliciting a person who is stopped, standing or parked in a motor vehicle.

Police released the man on an undertaking, with a condition not to panhandle anywhere in Guelph.
