Police find wanted man asleep in a restaurant

On Dec. 27, 2017 at approximately 3:55 p.m., a male entered a department store in the north end of the city and is alleged to have stolen an item. Security officer apprehended the male and placed him under arrest. Shortly after being placed under arrest, the male fled the area. Police were called and were unable to locate the male.

On Dec. 29, 2017 at approximately 6:30 a.m., Guelph police were called to a 24 hour restaurant in the north end, where there was a report of a male that had been sleeping at a table most of the night. Police arrived and identified the male as wanted for the Dec. 27 incident.

The 23-year-old male was arrested and charged with theft under, escape lawful custody and breaching his probation order. He was held for a bail hearing.
