A Guelph man faces several charges after he was observed Tuesday morning placing catalytic converters into the trunk of a taxi.

An officer on patrol on Woodlawn Road West observed the man loading up the exhaust components as well as several plastic totes full of wire. The catalytic converters appeared to have fresh cut marks on them.

The man provided a name later determined to be false and was arrested. Investigation revealed the man provided the same fake name when he was stopped in May and issued a ticket under the Highway Traffic Act while riding a bicycle. He later failed to appear in court on that charge.

A 36-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with possessing stolen property, two counts of obstruct police and failing to attend court. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in court.
