Police officers sustain 'significant injuries' in alleged assault

On Dec. 28, 2018 at approximately 1:50 a.m., Guelph police were called to a south end address for a medical call. Police arrived and began speaking to a male. The male suddenly became violent toward police. The male assaulted two police officers before being apprehended. Both officers received significant injuries. Both were taken to the Guelph General Hospital, where one received treatment for multiple lacerations to his face and a broken nose. The other officer received trauma to his head and is being treated. Although there will be some follow up medical attention required, the two officers are expected to make a full recovery.

Brent Te Boekhorst, a 38-year-old Guelph man, was charged with aggravated assault and assault cause bodily harm. He will be appearing in court on Feb. 12, 2019.
