COUNTY OF WELLINGTON - The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit (TMU) in partnership with the OPP Highway Safety Division (HSD) and the Ministry of Transportation participated in the Operation Safe Driver Campaign which runs from July 11, 2021 to July 17, 2021.

The purpose of the campaign is to reduce the number of collisions involving commercial motor vehicles by conducting enforcement and education aimed at commercial motor vehicle operators.

On July 14-15, 2021, officers conducted targeted and offence-based traffic stops of commercial motor vehicles in various communities throughout Wellington County.

As a result of these 24 inspections:

  • 13 unsafe vehicles were removed from local roadways
  • 12 charges were laid including seatbelt, insecure loads, overweight loads, logbook violations and other equipment related issues
  • 28 warnings issued

Members of the Wellington County OPP TMU, MTO and the OPP HSD are very appreciative of the majority of drivers and companies that were observed to be doing it right. Successful drivers and companies recognize that road safety is just good business.
