An investigation into a south end robbery last month has led to a male’s arrest and the seizure of weapons and a significant amount of controlled substances.

Guelph police report that on June 21, approximately 11:30 p.m., two Guelph males attended a location in the area of Gordon Street and Clair Road East for the purposes of purchasing controlled substances. During this incident, an unknown male repeatedly punched one of the victims while demanding the keys for the male’s vehicle. The victim was able to flee on foot and contact police.

Investigation by the Guelph Police Service General Investigations and Special Projects (GISP) unit led to the identification of one of the suspects. On Thursday morning, members of GISP and the Guelph Police Service Tactical Response Unit executed search warrants on a residence and motor vehicle at an address on Gordon Street near Harvard Road.

Officers located several baggies of marijuana, two cell phones, cash and a laptop inside the residence. During a search of the vehicle, officers located cocaine, fentanyl and cash as well as an expandable baton and brass knuckles in the driver’s door.

In total, officers seized 137 grams of cocaine, 45.5 grams of fentanyl and 185 grams of marijuana with a total street value of approximately $20,000 and more than $4,000 in cash.

A 20-year-old Guelph male is charged with robbery, possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing proceeds of crime, two counts of possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possessing cannabis for the purpose of distribution under the Cannabis Act. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
