A 70-year-old Guelph male faces robbery and weapons charges after pointing a gun at an employee in a downtown business and demanding cash. The gun was later determined to be a toy.

Last Friday evening, about 6:20 p.m., the male was inside a licensed establishment downtown. He was asked by staff to put on a mask and begrudgingly did so. About five minutes later he approached a female employee who was standing behind the bar, pulling out a handgun and pointing it at her while demanding money. He then laughed, placed the gun in the pocket of his hoodie and left the business.

The male was located a short distance away. The gun was determined to be a toy which had been painted black.

A 70-year-old Guelph male is charged with attempted robbery and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He will appear in a Guelph court June 18.
