Two males face nine drug possession charges each, as a result of what started as a suspicious vehicle investigation.

Police noticed an unoccupied vehicle in a Speedvale Avenue East parking lot at about 9:20 p.m. on Saturday. The owner of that vehicle is currently facing drug and firearms charges, explains a police news release, and is on strict bail conditions including a curfew.

Shortly after officers began watching the vehicle, they saw two males get into it. One male was reportedly seen stuffing a black bag under his seat.

As the males exited the vehicle, officers noted a “large knife” clipped to the pocket of the passenger’s pants. Investigation revealed he is currently prohibited from possessing weapons and was arrested.

During a subsequent search, officers checked the bag and located several baggies containing powdery substances, along with a digital scale.

While officers were speaking to the passenger, they noticed the driver drop a second scale “in an effort to hide it from police,” the release notes.

As a result of the arrest, police seized 33.9 grams of methamphetamine, 13.7 grams of cocaine and 6.8 grams of heroin, as well as several ecstasy pills and about 100 pills of various opioids. The drugs have a collective value of about $6,500.

A 37-year-old Fergus male is charged with nine counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

A 32-year-old Guelph male also faces nine counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, as well as possessing a restricted weapon while prohibited.
