Police track down driver after stolen vehicle ditched

TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA - On April 11, 2021, at approximately 10:30 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single vehicle collision in a ditch on Wellington Road 26 near Sideroad 15.

Witnesses reported seeing the driver walking away from the collision prior to police arrival. Police determined that the motor vehicle has been reported stolen earlier in the day from Waterloo Region.

Officers set up containment of the area and were assisted by members of the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit in the search of the driver.

On April 12, 2021 at approximately 1:30 a.m., a suspect was taken into custody near the scene of the collision.

Justin Mcmillan, 31 years old from Kitchener, has been charged with;

  • Operate Motor Vehicle While Prohibited (6 counts)
  • Drive While Suspended (2 counts)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Possession of Break-In Instruments

The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice-Guelph at a later date.
