Reports of erratic driving lead to two separate impaired arrests

Both drivers charged following reports from citizens about erratic driving

Two motorists face impaired driving charges after their erratic driving caught the attention of others on the weekend.

Just before 8 p.m. on Friday, police were called about a vehicle in the area of Gordon Street and Edinburgh Road South. Several callers reported the vehicle being driven in an erratic manner.

Guelph Police Service officers stopped the vehicle on Gordon Street near Wellington Street East and immediately detected a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage from the vehicle. The female driver admitted she had been drinking and open containers of alcohol were observed inside.

A 47-year-old Whitby female is charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration. Her driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and her vehicle impounded for seven days. She will appear in a Guelph court March 2.

On Saturday afternoon, about 12:45 p.m., police received a report of an erratic driver entering Guelph on Woodlawn Road West. The motor vehicle was located in a parking lot on Westwood Road with the male driver still sitting inside.

When police spoke to the driver a strong odour of alcoholic beverage was detected coming from within the vehicle. Several empty beer cans were located within the vehicle. The male refused to provide a breath sample.

A 32-year-old Guelph male is charged with operation while impaired and refusing to provide a breath sample. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court March 5.
