A Guelph woman faces an impaired driving charge following a disturbance downtown Thursday night.

Just before 9 p.m. police were called to a disturbance in the area of Arthur Street South and Elizabeth Street. Officers spoke to both parties and sent them on their way. A short time later police learned a woman involved in the disturbance had returned to the scene.

Officers returned to see the woman driving away. A traffic stop was conducted during which an odour of alcoholic beverage was detected on her breath. The driver refused several times to provide a breath sample.

A 65-year-old woman is charged with refusing to provide a breath sample and driving while suspended. Her driver’s licence was further suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.
