A ride share driver was allegedly assaulted while attempting to prevent his vehicle from being damaged by someone looking to start a fight with his passenger, police say.

The incident happened shortly before midnight on Wednesday, outside a residence in the area of Victoria Road North and Woodlawn Road East.

As explained in a police news release, a female youth was attempting to engage in a fight with another female youth who was sitting inside the ride share vehicle. When the passenger wouldn’t get out, police say the aggressor began “slapping and kicking” the vehicle, which inspired the adult male driver to approach her.

It’s at that point the driver was reportedly punched in the head.

In response, the driver called 911 and the female youth fled on foot.

At about 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, a 15-year-old female turned herself in to police. She was charged with assault and fail to comply with an undertaking.
