Serious car crash in Downtown Guelph (6 photos)

Car demolished after hitting construction site on Quebec Street

Investigators were still on the scene of a serious crash in Downtown Guelph late Wednesday afternoon.

Bystanders say a vehicle heading east on Paisley Road at a high rate of speed lost control before crashing into a construction site just east of the Paisley Road/Norfolk Street intersection.

The car demolished two iron fences protecting the site and appeared to hit some cement blocks. It ended up flipping and severely damaging the vehicle to the point it was hard to tell what kind of vehicle it was.

The car appeared to have rolled over, crushing the roof, before coming to rest on its driver's side.

The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Paramedics, firefighters and police rushed to the scene. An Ornge Air Ambulance was called and set down somewhere near Downtown Guelph. The rear of the vehicle had a tarp placed over it.

It is not immediately known how many people were in the vehicle or the extent of any injuries.

This story will be updated.
