Several charged with doing twice the speed limit by OPP

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police are reporting several traffic offences that resulted in charges over the past week.

On Dec. 16 at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a traffic complaint on Concession 2 in Puslinch. A Good Samaritan reported a black sedan that was being operated in an erratic manner before it went into the ditch. Officers attended. No injuries were reported, and as a result of the investigation, a 50-year-old from Cambridge has been charged with Operation while Impaired and Operation while Impaired- 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood), contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, at a later date.  

On Dec. 17, at approximately 10:30 p.m., an officer with the Wellington County OPP was conducting patrols on Wellington Road 7 in Pilkington Township when they observed a grey sedan being travelling at approximately 100 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone. As a result of the investigation a 26-year-old from Palmerston was charged with Perform Stunt -Excessive Speed. The defendant is schedule to appear before the provincial offences court at a later date. 

On Dec. 18, the Wellington County OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check at approximately 1 a.m., when a pickup truck failed to stop at the RIDE check. Officers stopped the vehicle on St. David Street North, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old from Kenilworth has been charged with Operation while Impaired- 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood), contrary to the Criminal Code, with Fail to Properly Wear Seatbelt, and Young Driver - B.A.C. Above Zero, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and with Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor, contrary to the Liquor License Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, at a later date.  

On Dec. 19, at approximately 1:30 p.m., an officer with the Wellington County OPP was conducting patrols on Highway 6, Centre Wellington, when they observed a minivan traveling at approximately 137 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone. A traffic stop was conducted and as a result of the investigation a 41-year-old from Burlington was charged with Perform Stunt - Excessive Speed. The defendant is schedule to appear before the provincial offences court at a later date.   

On Dec. 20, at approximately 12 a.m., an officer with the Wellington County OPP observed a white sedan travelling at approximately 166 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone on Highway 6 in Wellington North Township. As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old from Mount Forest was charged with Perform Stunt - Excessive Speed. The defendant is schedule to appear before the provincial offences court at a later date.   

On Dec 22, at approximately 1 a.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a yellow sedan in a ditch off of Jones Baseline in Guelph/Eramosa Township. Officers responded and as a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old from Guelph has been charged with Operation while Impaired and Operation while Impaired- 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood), contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, at a later date.
