Hunters are reminded to exercise control and caution when hunting. On Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017 Wellington County OPP (OPP) received a report of a negligent act with a firearm. A shotgun slug was carelessly fired into a residence on Sideroad 6 East, between Concession Road 4 North and Concession Road 2 North, near Kenilworth.

The rural residence is surrounded by fields and bush that are routinely hunted. The slug was fired from the east of the residence, shattering glass, trim and wall before hitting a chair. Luckily no one was home at the time and no one was injured or killed.

OPP have notified the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

Competent hunters will be aware of their target and beyond and will ensure they have a proper back stop before pulling the trigger. The person who took this shot was not mindful of the trajectory of the round and put people's lives at risk.

OPP have not identified a suspect but are asking anyone who may have knowledge of who was hunting in the Sideroad 6 area between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Nov. 8, 2017 to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
