SIU invokes mandate following Mapleton collision

On Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2019, at approximately 11:20 p.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police Wellington County Detachment observed a motor vehicle travelling southbound on Wellington Road 86, turning onto Side Road 15.

Shortly thereafter, a passing motorist reported a motor vehicle collision involving the same motor vehicle approximately five kilometres away from the intersection of Wellington Road 86 and Side Road 15. The vehicle was located unoccupied at the scene.

The driver, located in the area, was arrested by police and transported to hospital by Perth County Paramedic Services for medical assessment.

As a result of interaction with police, Wellington County OPP has notified the province's Special Investigation Unit (SIU), which has invoked its mandate. As a result, OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.
