On Nov. 16, 2016 Guelph Police investigated a break-in to a residential home in the city’s west end where a lap top computer and a man’s wallet was stolen.

Police learned that the victim’s credit cards had been used throughout the city and video surveillance captured an unknown male using the credit cards.

Police were unable to identify the male and on Dec. 12, 2016 sought the help of the public in identifying the unknown male through social media. A photo of this male was released to the public and tips as to his identity were received.

As a result of posting his photo, the male became aware that police were searching for him and turned himself in to Guelph Police the following day.

The 22-year-old Guelph man was charged with break, enter and theft, possession of stolen property and two counts of use stolen credit card. He was released with a promise to appear before the court on Jan. 24, 2017.

Not all of the property has been recovered.

Guelph Police wish to thank the Guelph community. Had it not been for their assistance, this break and enter may not have been solved.
