Stopped for speeding, charged with impaired

A Drumbo male who was stopped for speeding in Guelph Tuesday night was found to have more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system, report police.

A Guelph police officer was conducting speed enforcement on Woodlawn Road West about 10:15 p.m. when a motor vehicle was observed travelling 82 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

The motor vehicle was stopped and the male driver found to be showing signs of impairment, including slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. After registering a fail on an approved screening device, the male was arrested and taken to the station where further testing revealed he had well more than double the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 30-year-old Drumbo male is charged with impaired operation, impaired operation – blood alcohol and speeding. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court May 21, 2021.
