Getting his car stuck in a snowbank ended up being the least of a Breslau male’s concerns Thursday night.

About 11:30 p.m. Guelph police were called to a report of a vehicle going off the road and getting stuck near the intersection of London Road West and Bagot Street. The caller advised the male driver, who appeared unsteady on his feet, was trying to dig the car out.

Police arrived on scene as the male was still trying to free the vehicle. He was showing obvious signs of impairment and had a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath and was arrested for impaired driving, report police.

Police observed several open containers of alcoholic beverage inside and outside the vehicle. The male was uncooperative with police and refused to provide a breath sample.

A 50-year-old Breslau male is charged with impaired operation, refuse to comply with a breath demand, driving without a licence, driving with an invalid licence plate, failing to have an insurance card and driving a motor vehicle with access to open alcohol. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

He will appear in a Guelph court June 11.
