Two friends were each arrested for impaired driving Friday evening after switching seats following a minor collision, say Guelph police.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. Friday, the Guelph Police Service was called to a parking lot on Speedvale Avenue East for a reported collision. Officers learned a motor vehicle was reversing into a spot when it collided with a parked vehicle.

The female driver reportedly denied hitting the other vehicle, before switching seats with her friend and leaving the scene.

Officers stopped the motor vehicle a short distance away. Investigation revealed the female in the passenger seat when the vehicle was stopped had been the driver when the collision occurred. Both females were showing signs of impairment and were arrested. Breath tests at the police station revealed both had more than the legal amount of alcohol in their system.

Two 29-year-old Guelph females are each charged with impaired driving. Their driver’s licences were suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days. Both females will appear in a Guelph court May 25.
