Teen seriously injured in Woolwich Street collision

Numerous charges laid against Kitchener man, including drug possession for purpose of trafficking

The Guelph Police Service is seeking witnesses or dashcam footage following a serious collision Saturday evening which left a teenage girl in hospital with serious injuries.

Just after 8 p.m. Saturday, two motor vehicles were driving northbound on Woolwich Street at a high rate of speed. One of the vehicles, a white Cadillac, collided head-on with a southbound Volkswagen near the intersection of Powell Street and then collided with two parked vehicles. A second southbound vehicle swerved to avoid the collision and struck another parked vehicle.

The second northbound vehicle, believed to be a black BMW, left the scene.

Several people were taken to hospital. A 14-year-old female passenger in the Volkswagen was initially transferred to Guelph General Hospital, but then transferred overnight to a Hamilton trauma centre for further treatment. The other injuries are believed to be minor in nature.

Following the collision, the driver of the white Cadillac was observed throwing a backpack which he had removed from the vehicle. The bag was recovered by police and found to contain 36.4 grams of cocaine, 15 grams of methamphetamine and a quantity of morphine and Xanax pills, as well as digital scales and small baggies. The drugs have an estimated value of almost $4,000.

A 26-year-old Kitchener male is charged with dangerous driving and four counts of possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. He will appear in a Guelph court September 3, 2021. The investigation is ongoing. Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or the involved vehicles before or after the collision, or has dashcam or home surveillance footage of the vehicles, and has not already spoken to police.
