A Guelph man faces several charges after teens playing hide and seek Saturday were chased by someone with a machete, Guelph police reported Monday.

Police were called approximately 9:30 p.m. to a townhouse complex near Scottsdale Drive and Stone Road West. Two teens aged 14 and 15 were running through the complex looking for a hiding spot when they were confronted by an adult man not known to them. The man was holding a machete in the air.

The teens started running away from the man, who began chasing them while still holding the weapon. He reportedly approached a townhouse unit and damaged the door by repeatedly kicking it.

Officers arrived quickly and took him into custody.

A 35-year-old Guelph man is charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and mischief under $5,000. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in a Guelph court next month.
