A Guelph female who provided a fake name to police Monday was arrested after a tattoo gave away her true identity, say police

Approximately 6:45 p.m. Monday, Guelph police were called to a commercial plaza on Speedvale Avenue East near Stevenson Street North. A female had allegedly left a store with a shopping cart full of unpaid-for product and was being followed by store staff. The female tried to run away but was stopped by responding officers.

She twice provided a fake name before being positively identified after a tattoo was compared against police records.

A 35-year-old Guelph female is charged with theft under $5,000 and obstructing police. She will appear in a Guelph court Sept. 28.
