This year’s Homecoming bill: $97,000

Guelph police covered $76K of that, most of it for overtime costs associated with 58 extra officers; U of G picked up $21K

Homecoming weekend cost Guelph police and the University of Guelph a total of $97,205.10 this year.

The Guelph police covered $76,404, while the U of G contributed $20,800 for additional resources, said Police Chief Gord Cobey at a Guelph Police Services Board meeting Thursday. 

The Sept. 23 weekend saw 58 additional officers deployed around town to support the GPS, and another five at the U of G. 

In addition, Project Safe Semester, which took place from Sept. 1 to Sept. 22, cost $46,708.68, with the GPS covering  $38,834. The University of Guelph supplied the remaining $7,874 to pay for extra officers. 

During that time there were an additional 54 officers deployed to support GPS and 13 at the U of G.
