Three area women face racing charges

Police charge three in separate incidents on the Hanlon Expressway on Saturday

Hanlon racing charge

CITY OF GUELPH, ON - On Saturday Sept. 29, 2018, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. 

The officer observed a female driving a grey sedan at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 145 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 65 km/h.

45-year-old Hadije Bllaca of Erin has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Nov. 21, 2018. Her driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

Hanlon racing charge II

CITY OF GUELPH, ON - On Saturday Sept. 29, 2018, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. 

The officer observed a female driving a white passenger vehicle at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 150 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 70 km/h.

57-year-old Laura E. Birkett of Burlington has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on November 21, 2018. Her driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

CITY OF GUELPH, ON - On Saturday Sept. 29, 2018, at approximately 2 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. 

The officer observed a female driving a grey SUV at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 140 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 60 km/h.

44-year-old Lucia Maria Heleno Gouveia of Toronto has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Nov. 21, 2018. Her driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
