On Feb. 19, 2020 at 8 p.m., three adult males attended to an apartment located near the intersection of Woodlawn Road East and Victoria Road North in the City of Guelph, to collect a debt from a 19-year-old male. When the victim advised that he was unable to pay, [it is alleged that] he was punched in the face and one of males stole his backpack.

The group of males then attended to a laundry mat at nearby commercial plaza, where they encountered a 24-year-old female. She also had a debt to the group and was unable to pay, so they [allegedly] threatened to break into her house with weapons.

The group of males then attended to a nearby restaurant where they were located by members of the Guelph Police Service. While police were attempting to ascertain exactly what transpired, one of the males was observed hiding something in his backpack. Inside his backpack, police located a handsaw, two chisels, pry bar, multi-tool, screwdrivers, vice grips, head flashlight and balaclava. A large sheathed knife was also located in the seat directly behind the male. A further search revealed a pocketknife in his jacket pocket, locked in the open position.

While attempting to arrest this male and escort him to a police cruiser, another one of the males became agitated and followed police outside. He started yelling, screaming and swearing at police, while they attempted to deal with the other male. This caused a group of people walking through the plaza to go out of their way to go around the agitated male.

All three males were eventually arrested.
