Three drivers charged with impaired

One of the accused was found asleep behind the wheel

At approximately 12:05 a.m. on Oct. 20, police stopped a 2003 Toyota Matrix in the area of Gordon Street and Edinburgh Road when it was seen driving at a high rate of speed without any headlights on. Interaction with the male driver led police to believe that his ability to operate his motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and he was arrested. The male registered readings over the legal limit in tests later at the station. Syed Kazim, a 53-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and drive over .08mgs. He was later released and will appear in court in November.

At approximately 2:55 a.m. on Oct. 21, police stopped a black Dodge pickup truck in the area of Edinburgh Road and College Avenue when it was seen driving without any exterior lights on. The male driver registered a ‘fail’ on an approved roadside screening device and was arrested. The male then registered readings over the legal limit in tests at the station. Thomas Nicholas Cunningham, a 28-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and drive over .08mgs. He was later released and will appear in court in November.

At approximately 3:40 a.m. on Oct. 21, police received information of a male asleep behind the wheel of a 2008 Ford Mustang on Macdonell Street. When police were able to wake the man, he was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested. The male then registered readings over the legal limit in tests later at the station. Stephen Giles, a 54-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired care and control of a motor vehicle and care and control of a motor vehicle - over .08mgs. He was later released and will in court in December.
