Three drivers charged with impaired, one accused of illegally purchasing cannabis

TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA - On Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police were conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks on Highway 7 near Cobblestone Place where they investigated the male driver of a grey motor vehicle that entered into the check point. 

While speaking with the driver, officers observed an open container of alcohol between his legs and detected an odour of alcohol on his breath. The driver completed a standard field sobriety test which was performed poorly. Officers determined that his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and he was placed under arrest. He was transported to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Seventy-year-old Terrence Rigby of Guelph-Eramosa Township has been charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration - 80 plus and operation while impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Feb. 1, 2019 to answer to the charges.  

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH - On Friday, Dec. 28, 2018 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police were conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks on Gore Road near Townline Road where they investigated the male driver of a four door sedan that entered into the check point. 

While speaking with the male, officers determined that he was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Thirty-four-year-old Usman Ahmad Khan of Cambridge has been charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration - 80 plus contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Jan. 29, 2019 to answer to the charge.

TOWN OF ERIN - On Friday, Dec. 28, 2018 just shortly after 8 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police responded to two separate reports of a possible impaired driver travelling on Trafalgar Road in the Town of Erin.

Officers located the grey SUV, matching the description provided by witnesses, stopped on the shoulder of Trafalgar Road. While speaking with the male driver, officers determined that his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Fifty-five-year-old Robert Cox of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal court on Jan. 29, 2019 to answer to the charges.

On Friday, Dec. 28, 2018 at approximately 3:55 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police officers investigated a male driver of an SUV that attempted to evade a R.I.D.E. spot check on Maddaugh Road near Highway 6 in Puslinch Township.

While speaking with the driver, officers immediately detected the strong odour of burned marijuana inside the vehicle. Police also observed a small child seated in the rear seat.

Investigation revealed that the driver was operating the motor vehicle while under suspension and was in possession of marijuana.

A 35-year-old man from Cambridge has been charged with adult unlawful purchase of cannabis contrary to the Cannabis Act 2017 and drive while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
