Three people were arrested in Guelph for impaired driving over the Christmas weekend.

On Friday evening, just before 10 p.m., police were called to a collision on Cork Street East. Investigation revealed a female was attempting to park when she sideswiped a parked car. The female had a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on her breath and showed other signs of impairment.

She was arrested and returned to the police station, where testing confirmed she had more than the legal amount of alcohol in her system. A 23-year-old Guelph female is charged with impaired driving. Her licence was automatically suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Approximately 24 hours later, just after 10 p.m. Saturday, officers were in the area of Kortright Road West and Rickson Avenue after receiving information about a female driving while impaired. At 10:23 p.m. officers saw the involved vehicle pulling into a driveway and went to speak to the driver.

The female driver was jittery, had jerky body movements and her speech was slurred. Officers believed she was impaired by drugs and she was arrested and returned to the police station for further assessment. She was seen by a trained drug recognition expert, who concluded her ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by a narcotic.

Investigation also revealed the female was bound by a court-ordered 10 p.m. curfew. A 29-year-old Guelph female is charged with impaired operation and failing to comply with a release order. Her licence was automatically suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.

While officers were still dealing with that impaired driver, a call was received about a male observed passed out behind the wheel at the intersection of Woolwich Street and Norfolk Street. The caller reported the driver then woke up and proceeded northbound on Woolwich Street.

Officers arrived at a residence in the area and spoke to a male, who was observed to be acting erratically and sweating profusely. Officers believed he was impaired by a drug. The male was arrested and placed in a cruiser, but began to scream and swear causing several other residents to come outside to see what was going on.

A 31-year-old Acton male is charged with impaired operation, driving without a licence, causing a disturbance and breach of probation.
